TADAAAAA!!!
Canmake Gokubuto Mascara
To show you just how awesome this mascara is, I've taken pictures in different situations, which is why this post is rather picture heavy. I am also including an EOTD for K of cosmeddicted, which will be explained a little later.
I have the typical asian eyelashes, which are straight and do not hold a curl well. I can curl my eyelashes and use waterproof mascara and they'll stay curled. Removing it is a bit of a pain and can cause you to lose some of your eyelashes in the process. I've resorted to using Shiseido The Makeup Mascara Base, which is quite awesome. It helps to hold my curl and I can use non-waterproof mascara. I still have to use an eyelash curler to curl my lashes though and that in itself can also be harmful to your eyelashes.
For the first set of pictures, I decided to be fair and use a mascara that Mai finds to be pretty awesome for her. It is the L'Oreal Panoramic Curl. She says that it curls her eyelashes quite well but it does flake somewhat after it's been on for a while. I am not curling my eyelashes first, just applying it onto my normal, straight eyelashes.
Now for the Canmake Gokubuto Mascara...
Curled lashes--I see curled lashes! It's not just barely curled but nicely curled! This is so exciting for me! I can't stop staring at my eyelashes.
I went to work like this, with two different curling mascaras and only one side curled. My eye with the curled lashes even looks a little bigger.
Next day, I decide to try curling my eyelashes with the eyelash curler first.
This is curled using Koji #70 eyelash curler. You can see how curled my lashes are.
My eyelashes after applying Gokubuto mascara shows that it did lose some of the curl from the eyelash curler. It kind of looks like the way it did the day before. This is fine because the curl has a more natural look to it. Also, by the end of the day when I went to shower, I noticed that I lost more curl to my lashes however, this was like 16 hours after applying so what did I expect. It was definitely still curled.
Today I decided to curl my eyelashes with the eyelash curler, apply Shiseido Mascara Base and then apply Gokubuto mascara.
My eyelashes are super curled and I think that this look will be great for an evening out or special occasions.
There is no way around it, this mascara is awesome! I've been having such great luck with Canmake products lately. Canmake is an inexpensive Japanese brand. You can buy this from A Pop Of Kawaii and the cost of it right now is $10.90 plus shipping and handling. Of course if you are in Japan, the cost is a little less than this. Be sure to look for GokuButo mascara because there is also a Gokunobi mascara by Canmake. The Gokunobi mascara does not work as well as Gokubuto.
I want to end this post with an EOTD. I said that it was for K. This is because in one of my posts I had said that I haven't really worn brown eyeshadows until recently. She had asked me what colors do I normally use. So here they are...
Products used:
Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Bronzer
MAC Silver Ring
MAC Amber Lights
MAC Print
Canmake Loose Cheek 01
K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner
Gokubuto Mascara
I had been searching high and low (again) for a copper eyeshadow that is matte. It's difficult since copper is a metallic color. I had been using Amber Lights in my contour area but as I've gotten older, the shimmer in it isn't flattering in the contour area. I finally discovered that I had a matte copper color in my stash but it's in the form of my bronzer. Thus, Smashbox Halo bronzer is what I used in my contour area, from lashline to browbone. Silver Ring on inner 1/3 of upper eyelid, Amber Lights on middle 1/3 of upper eyelid and Print on outer 1/3 of upper eyelid and along outer 1/3 of lower lashline. Canmake Loose Cheek 01 is applied lightly onto brow bone. Lined upper lashline and corner of lower lashline with K-Palette and applied Gokubuto Mascara (this was 2nd trial day). On all 3 days, I did use the same eyeshadows.
Thank you for reading through this very long post but I am just so excited with this mascara.

Congrats on finding a mascara that works for you! I know I am always on the hunt for the HG one myself. I have found one I really like but its pretty pricey so I am looking for the cheaper alternative. So far I haven't had much luck in Japan, perhaps I will try out this one!
lol your Amber Lights looks like mine! I used to wear it all the time with Nylon as a highlight, its gotten lots of love.
Thank you, thank you thesungirl! I'm sooo happy! If you don't mind my asking, what's the one that you really like?
LOL! Yes, my Amber Lights is well loved--actually all of the shadows used in this EOTD are well loved, as you can see. Oh, I do have Nylon too. I also have used it as a highlight.
Thanks for taking time to read this very lengthy post and for commenting!

i cant help but notice you hit pan on your MAC eyeshadows! i wonder when i will be able to hit pan on an eyeshadow...hehehe. :D have a great weekend! :)
Thank you! Yes, coffretgorge, it really does feel good to find THE one!
Those are my "go to" eye shadows and have been for quite a few years now. I've replaced them at least twice.
You have a wonderful weekend too!

Kat - hitting pan on so many eyeshadows. I seriously wish I could get to that stage. I have hit pan on MAC Shroom but that is the only colour I have hit pan on!
Canmake I found to be a good brand. Something I discovered in Japan is that the drugstore things can work as well as the high end stuff sold in the US. Just my opinion anyway.
I'm so happy you found a HG mascara! I'm a big fan of the waterproof but this one does look very good indeed. I love the volume it gives!
Cheers

this is a GREAT review!! I love my gokubuto mascara too :D
I am so glad this mascara works for you!!
This is so weird, I used the same combinations as you the other day: koji lash curler, mascara base and canmake gokubuto mascara - awesome combo!!
i am also very pleasantly surprised with the koji lash curler :D
I'm glad you like this mascara. I got this from Fuz, but it doesn't work out for me at all.
So, I think, I'll be selling it on my blog sale some time. ;)
BV, I'm hitting pan on those only cause I use them almost every day, or at least I was until I discovered Beauty Blogging and the vast reviews of eyeshadows that make you want to try them all.
I'm so hitting the drugstore and stocking up on Canmake when I go to Japan. In the meantime, I'm so glad that I can order online from Nic Nic.
Yes, I'm totally happy with the Gokubuto mascara right now.

Nic Nic, thank you for offering this mascara at your online store. It's truly awesome for me. I'll probably be ordering more soon. I like that I can have the option of using it without an eyelash curler--saves your eyelashes and can use an eyelash curler for more curl for special occasions.

Aaawww Jess, I'm so sorry that this mascara doesn't work for you. I'm looking forward to your next blog sale.
I hope that things are slowing down a bit for you.

Yay for finding a mascara that works for you!! I've used a couple of duds recently, they can't hold a curl, they are clumpy and generally just terrible =[
Yea. I agree with Kat. I like this gokubuto mascara. It doesnt curl as much as the panoramic curl but it defines the lashes and doesnt flake. It is quite easy to remove as well. Has a very interesting shaped brush.
Thanks Kat for the review!!! Mai.
Blair, it's quite frustrating spending money on something that doesn't work. Mai and I both know that feeling. I'm really glad that I found something that works well. Thanks for leaving a comment!
*Kat*
Mai! I'm glad that it worked for you although too bad it doesn't curl as well for you as the L'Oreal. Funny because I can't get my lashes to curl with L'Oreal. Keep working and trying the gokubuto. I hope that it works as awesome for you as it does for me.
