Review: MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick

I have to admit that I'm not doing a very good job of sticking to my "Don't buy unless you need it" resolution. I decided that I "needed" to try out the new Sheen Supreme lipstick by MAC because it sounded like what I was looking for.

Sheen Supreme, according to the MAC website, has the result of being the combination of a lipstick with the shine sheen of a lipglass. It is supposed to be non-sticky, lightweight, easy to apply and comfortable. Wow, it sounds really good. I decided to go with the color "Impressive", which is a neutral gilded plum.

I was actually a bit disappointed in this. It is definitely more like a hydrating cream lipstick. It is quite opaque and I was looking for something that is a little sheer. As a result, it feels heavy. While it feels hydrating, it also feels a bit sticky . I've gotten used to a couple of lipsticks that I really like and rather than feeling creamy and hydrating, it feels like a non-sticky, slick, water consistency. I think that the only really redeeming thing about this is that it does seem to be hydrating.

Lightweight, sheer and shiny lipsticks seem to be super hot lately. Almost every brand has launched this kind of lipsticks.

I'm sorry to hear that MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick disappointed. Well, maybe try out the new Chanel Rouge Coco Shine or Dior Addict Lipstick? ;)

Hi Kathy, I agree with Jess - try a Chanel lipstick I don't think you'll be disappointed!

@Jess, @Nic Nic and @coffretgorge--Thank you for the suggestion of the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine. I've actually been eyeing them since you all have been posting about them. I'm trying to be on a no buy although I admit, I've not been very successful. I have to give myself credit though for having had some restraint. Never tried anything Chanel before and the price tag on this lippie is a bit high. However, I have to admit that my favorite is the Maquillage Glossy Perfect Rouge and that costs even more.

I so admire your "don't need don't buy" approach. I am getting better at reducing my haulage lately... although it is getting severe again. I blame the record high Australian dollar.

I want to thank you for posting this. I actually had a lemming moment when this came out and I refrained from buying because I find MAC lip products quite drying on me. Aside from the Lustres, I find them drying anyway.

The colour looks lovely though! Maybe you could salvage but using this with vaseline..? I admit I do that with superdry lipsticks and if you don't mind a sheerish look it usually works.

Take care

Hi there... sorry - just read the last line! Still hydrating... that's a puzzlement isn't it?

@BV--Yup, it's hydrating. I often will wear a lipbalm when wearing regular lipsticks but since this is hydrating, I don't. Great idea to use vaseline because I'm preferring the sheerish looks now.

aww sorry to hear its not what you wanted! But i've tried clinique's butter shine and its so buttery and the coverage is on the sheer side, go check them out if they're what you're after! :)

@Jennifer--Thanks for the tip on Clinique's Butter Shine. I checked it out on Sephora's website and they are quite reasonable. With my current VIB discount, that makes for a good deal to try it out.
