Purchase Review and EOTD: Urban Decay Eyeshadows, New Formulation

It's been a bit crazy for me at work since I got back from Japan so I haven't had the chance to blog consistently and haven't even replied to comments from the last post. I will reply as soon as I can!

Since Mother's Day week, it's been days of going in early just as the sun rises and leaving just as the sun gets ready to set. I finally had enough of it the other day and when I left to go to the mall to pick up dinner, I decided to stop into Sephora to treat myself to some goodies that I had seen a few nights ago. I ended up purchasing two new eyeshadows and a Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color, all from Urban Decay. I thought that the lip color was interesting because it's a fat pencil instead of  your typical lip gloss or lipstick tube. I got the color in Lovechild, which is a pink color. I thought that it looked really pretty when I swatched it on my hand but I'm not so in love with it on my lips. Perhaps it just takes getting used to. I do like the feel of it as it does feel moisturizing.

The eyeshadows that I purchased were Verve (which is also included in NAKED 2 palette) and Mushroom.

From the NAKED 2 palette, Verve is the one color that I really like. Mushroom is also a new color in the Urban Decay line and it's a charcoal taupe color. I totally love it!

Although it looks more brown in the first picture with Verve, the above picture is a truer color of Mushroom.

For my EOTD, this is the list of products used:

UDPP Primer Potion in Eden
Urban Decay Eyeshadows in Verve and Mushroom
MAC Eyeshadow in Print
K-Palette 24h Lasting Eyeliner

After applying primer potion, I applied Verve on the inner 1/3 of upper eyelid, Mushroom to the remainder 2/3 of eyelid. Print is applied to the outer corner and outer V of eyelid. I lined the upper lashline and outer lower 1/4 of lashline with K-Palette. I then applied Print over the liner of lower lashline and blending the color in and fading it toward mid eye.

I'm not sure if NAKED 2 was made with the new eyeshadow formulation but Urban Decay has reformulated their eyeshadows. When I first started using Urban Decay, I loved how pigmented and soft the eyeshadows were but I did experience fall out with it when doing my makeup application. I know many people have also complained about some colors being glitter bombs with major glitter fall out. The new formulation is supposed to be longer wearing with no fall out issues. While I can't say anything about the super glittery shadows since I haven't tried it out, I can say that I didn't experience any fall out with the new formulation of Verve and Mushroom. It's still very pigmented, but I don't think that it's quite as soft as the older version. In many ways, this is good for me as I tended to forget how soft the eyeshadows were and take a heavy swipe. It's just my opinion but I think that the "feel" of the new formulation is quite similar to how the L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadows feel--nicely pigments with a slight creamy feel to it.

Has anyone else tried Urban Decay's eyeshadows in the new formulation? What do you think?

Congratulations to the Class of 2012!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that Urban Decay has come out with a "build your own" palette and that the single eyeshadows now will pop out of the casing it is in. Unfortunately, it still has a "lip" to it and the palette itself isn't magnetic. I think that the eyeshadow is also in another tin so you can probably depot it from the popped out pan to be able to put it into a magnetized palette. I'm probably going to play around with it later and will let everyone know. (Thanks Sheila for your comment! It reminded me that I had originally wanted to put this info into my post.)

Naked 2 is formulated with the new technology! :) The colors are buttery soft and I love it. I've not tried the ones you have in the pan but I have the Naked 2 palette that I think is of suberb quality :) I love the colors you've chosen. They're both really versatile and perfect for daily wear =)

Very pretty! Not a fan of UD's new packaging policy though. Can't believe 1) they don't sell the pans on their own, and 2) how much they're charging for the eyeshadow.

Nonetheless, I look forward to their future palette designs =)

@Rainy Days and Lattes--Thank you for your comment. I thought that NAKED 2 was the new formulation but wasn't sure. As you can see, I haven't used the palette much.

@Sheila--Thank you for your comment because it reminded me that I had wanted to write about the pans and totally forgot to include it. I just edited my post.

What does the "lip" to it mean? I'm confused, sorry =(

Verve is one of my favorites from the naked 2 palette too! I'm glad they came out with it in single form, just wish I could buy pans instead of dealing with all the excess plastic with their new packaging.

good to see you back Kathy! I finally put the shadows you sent to good use by the way :D

Ohhh the taupe grey is so pretty! I think UD have stepped their game the last few years! Great EOTD!

Welcome back!! Your post just whetted my appetite for the Naked 2 Palette since it is formulated with the new technology. The two shadows you picked look fantastic! Great choices!

OO you picked up some pretty colours! They look great on you!

I havent actually swatched the UD naked2 or these new eyeshadows. I think its true about the original Naked, I do find it a bit annoying because there is a little bit of fall out.

Oh did you pick up the pencils that look a bit like the clinque chubby lip pencils that everyone raves about? (tinted balm kind of thing?)

@Sheila--It's kind of hard to explain. As soon as I figure out how to pop it out of the container, I'll take a pic and tweet it to you.

@Brianna--Haha, I could tell that I'm exhausted and not thinking straight. Thanks to you I realized that I didn't have the eyeshadow name correct and had to go back to edit my whole post with the correct name. Thank you! Verve is my favorite out of the NAKED 2 palette so I'm very glad that it's availabe as a single now.

@Jian--Thank you! Actually, I was kind of interested in the Clinique Chubby pencils too but ended up buying Urban Decay's version. Might try out Clinique's version after my crazy schedule slows down and I can get to the mall again.
