Purchase Review: Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara

Lancome Hynose Doll Lashes Mascara finally got released here in the U.S. I was eagerly awaiting its release ever since I read a review of it on Makeup For Professional Asian Women. Jamilla liked it a lot and it seemed like it was a really great mascara.

It comes in only one formulation, which is washable, not waterproof. This is perfect for me as I prefer not to use waterproof mascaras. I don't like having to tug at my delicate lashes to remove mascara.

I love the shape of the brush as it helped to reach the tiny lashes in the corner of my eyes. It also grabbed my lashes and coated it well without clumping.

Unfortunately, I ended up not liking this mascara at all. It did not curl my lashes and even when I curled it, it didn't hold my curl. My eyelashes are very stubborn so it uncurls very easily. Waterproof mascara is actually better for me since my lashes don't uncurl with waterproof mascara.  Another reason why I didn't like this mascara is that it actually gave me panda eyes. Again, I wouldn't have this problem if it was a waterproof mascara but I haven't ever had a problem with any mascara smudging and giving me panda eyes. I didn't even apply it to my lower lashes but it still left smudge traces under my eyes. When I put my finger by my eyelashes and blinked, the mascara also smudged onto my finger.

Needless to say, I was quite disappointed in this mascara. I really love the brush though. Have any of you readers tried it? What is your opinion of it?

sorry this mascara didn't work for you

i find mascaras and eyeliners are one of the hardest things to recommend... the results are just so different depending on the person

Sorry about the mascara! I thought my lashes were stubborn, but yours seem to be worse - hard to believe!

have you tried curling your lashes with a heated lash curler? This really holds the curl.

Good luck!

Sad re: mascara not working out! I get dreadful panda eyes when I wear non-waterproof mascaras - any type actually. I always use waterproof but I actually use olive oil to remove my eye makeup (liners + mascaras) and it works really well with zero tugging.

Hope you find a mascara you love more soon!
Cheers

I really want to get this one since my HG is Lancome's Hypnose. Really like the sound of dolly eyes! Too bad it didn't work out for you. Reading yours and Jamilla's reviews I want it more. The brush looks ideal for grabbing all the lashes like you said. x

I wanted to try this mascara, the name is so cute too :P
But like you, my lashes are very stubborn. Although I agree with Jamilla that you should try heated curlers, it's takes a bit longer but it works for me :)

Thanks for your review, Kathy!
I have been very interested in this mascara too, but now that you said it doesn't curl nor hold the curl, it's definitely a fail to me!

Owww sad to hear that it didn't work for you.. I hope they'll release a waterproof version. Or have you tried using Etude House Dr. Mascara fixer on top of it? It might make it waterproof but a pain to remove...

I wrote you a really LOOONG comment on my iPhone whilst I was on holiday in paris, and then somehow it got erased when I attempted to post it!!! It reminded me exactly why I don't comment when I read on my phone!

Anyhow, I think I pretty much wrote something like: Sorry to hear you're disappointed in it! I haven't tried this particular Hypnose, but I have tried the regular Hypnose once or twice before. I found that it too made my lashes fall flat as opposed to keep curl even when using curlers and smudged too, so I ended up giving it to my cousin who has naturally longer, more curled lashes anyway - it works better for her!

In terms of curl, I definitely like L'Extreme better! And it only comes in one formula - 'smudgeproof, wash off with warm water only but nothing else'or something to that effect. I also find that it volumises a lot better than Hypnose, as the original hypnose gave me long flat spidery lashes. I don't know if you've tried that before? I don't think it's as lengthening, but it definitely holds its curl.

@Steph--That's so true! Those items are definitely personal preference items. It's also the products that I will not sell after I've used them as there's just no way to properly sanitize it.

@breakingrumours--I've come to the conclusion that the brands that begin with "L" do not work for me, especially mascaras. I've had no luck with Lancome or L'Oreal.

@Jamilla--My lashes are really poker straight and stubborn! Yes, I actually have a heated lash curler but still the curl doesn't stay.

@BV--I've tried the olive oil when I was trying to remove one of the Japanese brands--can't remember which one now but OMG! it still didn't remove cleanly. The Japanese brands that are waterproof are really that, plus more.

@Miss Kei Kei--If the Hypnose worked for you then I think the Doll Lash Mascara will work well for you too. Jamilla's lashes looked great!

@Vanity-Fashionista--Wish my stubborn lashes would stay curled. I can curl it but it won't stay curled unless I use a mascara base or waterproof mascara. Yup, I even tried heated curlers.

@Jess--It wasn't just the fact that it didn't hold the curl but it was the awful panda eyes that I got. Haven't ever had that happen with a mascara before.

@Lemon Tart--I've never heard of Dr. Mascara before but if it makes like any of the asian waterproof mascaras, then I think I'll steer away. Those things are practically permanent!

@Mona--So glad to hear that it didn't work on someone else too.

@Jian--That's why I won't blog or comment using my iPhone. I don't see how people can use their phones for everything.

I haven't heard of L'Extreme. Maybe I should look into it. As I just commented in response to someone else, I've come to the conclusion that any of the brands that begin with an "L" doesn't seem to work for me.

Hi again Kat! Yeah L'extreme is still a Lancome mascara! Next time I am really quite tempted to get a Fairy Drops mascara. I see you using it sometimes in your EOTDs. I think though that it is definitely worth getting one of those panasonic heated eyelash curlers! Unfortunately I have had no luck so far in locating one since they don't sell them in England. I should have another look on ebay
