Thoughts of Japan

As so many other people have written already, my thoughts are turned towards the horrific devastation in Japan. I know that each of us is connected to someone or something in Japan. My heart is indeed heavy at this moment for all of those affected by this disaster. So many have lost their lives and my thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost a loved one.

Most of the people that I am concerned about there have responded and let me know in one way or another that they are safe. My son and his fiancee are safe for the moment. There was no damage from the earthquake and he's far enough inland not to be affected by a tsunami but there is some concern since they are in Fukushima and there is a major problem with a nuclear power plant in Fukushima. I'm hoping that they are far enough away that it doesn't affect them.

I'm really worried about one friend that I haven't heard from who lives in Ibaraki Prefecture. I've emailed his cell phone and finally emailed his regular email account but still haven't heard anything. I am hoping he's just really busy with work since he works for a company in the chemicals division. I'm sure that he's on standby in case there are any leaks, etc. I also know that phone service is really sketchy now. (Trying to be really positive here.)

I am also thinking of contacting my relatives. I am not close with them at all but at times like this, it's always good to be concerned. Language might be a huge barrier though.

There are many positives that I've seen too. True human spirit and love of mankind. People helping each other, friends and strangers alike. Bloggers concerned about bloggers and reaching out to see if they can be of help. There are shining moments even in the worst of tragedies.

Please, no matter what your faith, whether you believe or don't believe in a higher power, please pray and/or send good thoughts to everyone in Japan.

I hope that your son and fiancee will continue to be safe. I mean the US sent back up coolant for the nuclear power plant, so the power plant should be under control. I also pray that the friend you can't reach is fine too. In times like this I agree it's best to be positive. I hope that you can stay strong too, I am sure it's difficult for you at the moment.

The majority of the time I insist that I don't believe in 'God' as the Christians and other major faiths depict Him. However in times like this I do pray, I pray that there is someone there and they are listening, and they can have it in their hearts to listen and help those who are in dire need. I will keep praying, as will everyone across the world I am sure.

Hi Kat

I have friends in Sendai - they are okay but the devastation is unbelievable. I used to live and work in Kochi and I thought they were all safe but you know they are on tsunami alert!!!

I am seriously freaking out for them still. Absolutely devastating. I'm so happy your son and financee are okay. I am praying for an end to these aftershocks though!

Stay strong
