Creating Double Eyelids Using False Eyelash Glue -- Pic Heavy

As most monolid gals know there are a variety of products out there to help create a double eyelid. Way back in the day when there were no such things, at least that I knew of, scotch tape was used. (This was way back in the 70's.) Now there are eyelid tapes which is the same concept as the scotch tape. I couldn't use it since my eyelids wouldn't double plus it was very uncomfortable for me as the ends would poke my eyelids.

I don't know how I came to thinking about it but I decided to try false eyelash glue. It worked out great. I used it day and night for a couple of years and then only at night for another couple of years. After that, my eyelids would stay double for long periods of time without using the glue. Then for many years I didn't need to do anything except for perhaps a few times a year for only a week at a time. Fast forward to 2008 or 2009. I started having trouble with my eyelids starting to droop, which of course could be attributed to age but at the same time, my eyelids would undouble or become doubled with a very small, deep crease.

Now there are a variety of double eyelid glues to choose from and I became intrigued by them. I decided to try Koji Active Eyetalk since it seemed it was the strongest eyelid glue.

With all eyelid glues, you need to apply it to clean eyelids, free from dirt and oils. You decide where to place your desired crease and then you apply a significant amount of glue to the eyelid. You can view a tutorial here. You have to wait for it to dry and then create your crease, allowing the glue to stick. I found this procedure way too time consuming and unfortunately, it didn't hold well for me. My son's fiancee also uses double eyelid glue and I find that later at night, it is noticeable in that it seems to not be holding as well and I can see the glue.

Back to using false eyelash glue for me, my old faithful. Since I've mentioned that I use false eyelash glue, people have asked me how do I use it. My left eyelid has gone wonky on me so it is the perfect timing to do a quick tutorial

So here's my left eye with the super small crease.

It should look like the way my right eye does.

My supplies: DUO false eyelash adhesive and a metal nail file. I've only used DUO brand since that was the only brand that we had for the longest time. I like to use the metal nail file because I can get a fine line with it. Many years ago, I used to use a toothpick--it was definitely a little too sharp.

Using the metal file, I find the area where I want to create the crease.

Apply a small amount of eyelash glue to the tip of the nail file.

Sorry, I couldn't take good pictures of this portion. I tried and this was the best.

Apply the glue to the desired creaseline. I usually start in the middle, run it towards the inner eye and then towards the outer eye.

Let the glue set for a while, keeping your eyes open. After it's set, it should keep your eyelids double. Using a small amount of glue will create a natural crease on your lid.

To show the difference, I applied a heavy amount of glue to the other eyelid. See how unnatural and scary it looks when looking down.

Some tips:

*As with other double eyelid products, make sure that your eyelid is free from oil-based products. The oils will prevent the glue from sticking properly. I don't use cream eyeshadows for this reason.

*For purposes of this tutorial, I did it sans makeup. However, gluing my eyelids is the last thing that I do--I apply all of my makeup first and then will use the glue.

*I will carry glue and a nail file with me in my makeup bag just in case it starts to unglue. Most of the time I haven't experienced any problems and often keep my makeup on for 10 hours or longer.

*I will also do a heavier application of glue at night before going to bed if I want to have a good crease in the morning. This helps a lot with applying double eyelid stretch fiber. If you haven't read my tutorial on the stretch fiber before, you can see it here.

I hope this was helpful to those who were curious as to how I use the false eyelash glue. If you have any questions, please comment here or email me privately.

Thanks for reading!

@K--I'm so glad that this was helpful to you. I've been wondering how long ago it was that Japan came out with the double eyelid glues. Something that I should try and research, just out of curiosity. Let me know if you have any questions.

@Ying--I'm happy that you enjoyed this post. A natural crease developed after about a year of constantly using the false eyelash glue. I kept on using the glue regularly for approximately 4 years--two years wearing it day and night and then two years of wearing it only at night. It was then a good 20 years or so of not having to use anything except once in a blue moon having to go back to gluing it for a few days. Good luck in using it at night.

@Lisa--Ah so you have one troublesome eyelid too. I hope that the eyelash glue works for you. It's really an inexpensive alternative to the double eyelid glue with the added bonus of it being stronger.

this is a great tip for monolid ladies, Kathy!

Although I think your natural lids look just fine. They look rather natural after you enhance it with glue.

this is a great tutorial!

thanks for the comment! the tickets are definitely more expensive from japan but were flying with ANA and the service is pretty good even though we're going through economy. I was surprised to see how reason the hotels are. I am so excited to goto hawaii! I hope we can meet at some point. We're going to be staying near waikiki beach though - hopefully I'll be able to catch you somewhere, at some point!

@Steph--On your brother?! Please let me know how it works out for him. It sounds like how my eyelids were where this seemed to be the one thing that worked for me. Good luck!

One of the most fascinating posts I have ever read. Incredible.

I have tried to use both eyelash and Mezaik and have had zero luck. I do have small eyelid but I think the fact that I suffer from oily skin means that this method won't work for me.

I tried to use the glue but I didn't do it properly and ended up caking around the crease making me look slightly scary.

*sigh*

I am so fascinated to see it all in action though!!

Thanks for this

@BV--Thank you! I'm glad that you enjoyed this post. Yeah, perhaps having oily skin might cause some problems for you using this technique--but do your eyelids get oily too? Mine never did.

Hi Kat = thank you for this tut - I have double eyelids but I have a condition called Ptosis on my right eyelid (where the lid is more droopy on the one side because of a degenerative muscle. I hate how lopsided my eye looks in photos and videos - I have considered cosmetic surgery to fix it as well but because I scar so badly - it was not recommended. I thought I was sentenced to a life of droopy right eye - I just saw this tutorial and I am about to go to the shops to get some eyelash glue to see if I can literally glue my eyelid open. I think you might be onto something here! Thanks

@Tincan Crafter--Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm glad to hear that it was useful for you. I started doing this back in the 70's when I was a teen and don't know if Japanese brands of eyelid glue were even out yet. I hope that it has worked out for you. Please leave a comment again letting me know if it worked or not.

Hi Kat - thanks for the wonderful comment on my blog - I have been buying various types of eyelash glue, since then - I bought a really expensive one that didnt work at all - but I recently found a cheap one that has the potential to stay stuck. I am still trying to get the application right without it looking like I have some majorly deformity on my eyelid. Plus - I do actually have naturally long eyelashes and I am having a problem trying to get them NOT to get stuck to the gluey part. I think I will have to view your tutorial on application as well. I used to live in Japan, I went there fresh out of college to teach English - my favourite store was the Daiso 100Y plaza - I wish I could be back there now because I do remember them having tons of eyelash glue.

i would like to ask u that i have been trying the false lashes glue instead og double eyelid glue bcz i cant find that in sweden. but it is too difficult to remove it back. and i feel like it swallows and hurts when i clean it hardly

galpal.hi said...

@Anonymous--Sorry for the slow reply. I've been busy with work and went on a trip. I think that it would be best to use a cleansing oil to remove the eyelash glue on your eyelids. It will help loosen the grip of the eyelash glue. I hope that this helps.

I just accidentally stumbled upon this post and found it most fascinating! I never knew people use tape or glue on their eyelids! I'm European and have "double eyelids" by default so eyelids are not something I've ever really thought about. It never ever occurred to me that this is something people try to create. It was a very interesting and informative post. I guess you learn new things every day!

Hi Dear ,
there is the emergency question for you.
Question - any cream or gel to stick "EYELID TAPE" on top lid of the eye ?
