Product Review: Canmaker Cover & Stretch Concealer UV

I am an Asian American with full Japanese ethnicity and I grew up with freckles on my face. I've always thought that it was unusual and I definitely disliked my freckles. As I grew older, the freckles became more plentiful and grew bigger in the tropic Hawaii sun. On my right cheek a cluster of freckles started to mesh together. Then a pimple appeared and the discoloration from the pimple merged together with the cluster of freckles and formed one big, ugly spot right on the apple of my cheek. No amount of lightening products has succeeded in making that spot go away. Then a few months ago, hot frying oil splattered up onto the same side of my face resulting in some discoloration on my upper lip and chin. *sigh*

I've tried different types of concealers but found that the best coverage that I got was from powder foundation on top of liquid or cream foundation. A couple of the cream type concealers that I have tried recently are The Balm and Benefit Bo-ing. Both of them didn't conceal the discolorations well enough.

Now the problem that I found with using the powder foundation applied on the discoloration that it looks great when applied--covers completely and the color matches skin tone perfectly. A problem arises when I apply my blush. In the area that I've concealed, it shows up as a white spot. Recently I had been trying some other techniques which was working out a little better.

I was online shopping at A Pop of Kawaii when I saw the Canmake Cover & Stretch Concealer UV being offered. With some trepidation, I decided to order it since it is quite reasonably priced. My order arrived quickly and I've been playing around with the concealer for the last few days. Can I just say...I TOTALLY LOVE THIS! According to the description, it covers skin problems while protecting your skin from UV rays and dryness. (Yay, this means it's hydrating!) This concealer isn't supposed to run or look powdery. The bonus is that it's waterproof. The interesting thing is that it's a flexible, stretchy powder. Please read the complete info here

It comes in 3 different shades and I got it in shade 2. I was debating between shade 2 and 3 because shade 3 is supposed to cover dark spots. I am still debating whether or not to try it too. It has a doe foot applicator so it comes out of the tube creamy but after you pat and blend it on, it dries to a powdery finish. Since cream finishes didn't work out on me, this is perfect. I also find that cream finishes tend to cake on me and shows my fine lines--definitely a no-no.

Naked face

After BB cream application

Concealer dotted on areas I want to conceal

Concealer blended out

After foundation applicaton (used Temptu)

I really don't have dark circles under my eyes but there is some darkening. It actually makes my undereye area look dull. I decided to try using this on my undereye area as well and WOW! It brightens my eyes! I think that it makes me look well-rested and younger (YAY!!!) Also, a white spot doesn't show up under my blush! (Double YAY!)

I am so happy with this concealer! I will definitely be using this every day.

My next review will be another awesome, awesome item that I purchased from A Pop of Kawaii. It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a product.

Although it may not seem like it, I definitely have no affiliation with A Pop of Kawaii except as a completely satisfied customer. The service is exceptional.

I went back to the post about your temptu review and you looked really good in there already! But I'm glad that you're liking it =).

I'm still looking for a great concealer for myself. I was liking MAC Studio Finish, but I don't like it on my cheeks.

I find concealers not staying on my oily skin for too long =(. I shall try moisture cover next. Or maybe Eve Pearl when I see that in IMATS. Decisions, decisions LOL.

Good luck in finding the awesome concealer for you, Rica. It's so frustrating knowing what you want but not being able to find it.

Thanks for thinking that I looked good in my Temptu review post. I was probably using a concealer then too. At least this Canmake one doesn't have a white spot appear when I apply blush--at least not so far.

Hi,Kathy.
Your review is really helpful for me this time too.
I also love CANMAKE cosmetics, I've tried many kinds of products from CANMAKE before. Those are inexpensive, but works really great.(sometimes much better than high-brand's cosmetics...)

I was just thinking to buy new concealer, then I should try CANMAKE's one.

Thank you again for great review.

I'm glad that my review was of help to you Shihoco! I find it funny that you're living in Japan where you can easily get CANMAKE and you're reading a review from someone in Hawaii who has to mail order it. I've been really pleased with the Canmake things that I've bought so far. It's great for an inexpensive brand.

Your makeup looks flawless.

Freckles in Asians is not as unusual as you may think. My cousin has them (she lasered them off her face!! why???) and Lucy Liu has them - I think they look cute! I know, grass is always greener!

I might try this Canmake thingie out myself cos I have had zero luck with MUFE waterproof concealer and I want something waterproof.

Man, your temptu foundie looks so damn good. You give me SERIOUS lemmings whenever you post these pictures! I have decided that if I get a better job and if Sephora have family and friends sale - that is going to the top of my list.

I want want want.... hehehehe

Thank you for reviewing this!
Oh gosh I love the results..

I've never seen a concealer work like that tbh!

I am freckles too... always trying to find ways to make them disappear... it takes a long long time!! i got a fair few popping out this summer because it's been so sunny in japan (and still is). A concealer with UV is an awesome idea.. now I want to give it a try!

awesome review!!

BV, your cousin lasered them off? Wow, that must have been expensive and time consuming! When I see other people with freckles, I think that they are so cute but I don't think that they are cute on me.

The Temptu is really awesome right now. I stopped using it soon after I got it but am loving it right now with the hot and humid weather.

Nic Nic, thank you! I'm glad that this works on me--it's the best concealer that I've used so far.

Since you mentioned UV, I have some info that I learned about today and I will be posting about it in a day or two. I found it quite interesting.

Hi Kat
Yep, it cost her like 3 grand. But she did it not just for the freckles to to tauten her skin. What can I say - she looks like a teenager now and not too bad as she is older than me. Looks at least 20 years younger than me though! Oh well, as her husband said to me 'her quest for beauty is killing my wallet!' HA

ps I am having serious lemmings re your temptu... again!

OMG! 3 grand! Her husband sure has a great sense of humor and is so kind.

The Temptu is great! The best thing that you can do is to come to Hawaii and play and test mine out and then you can decide whether or not if you want it.

Wow, what a coincidence! I bought this recently as well. What do you think of the coverage? I want a wee bit more, but it is buildable.

galpal.hi said...

K, I think that the coverage is quite good for me. It's the best of all of the concealers that I have tried in terms of coverage and wearability.
