Product Review: Clean Anti-Bacterial Moisturizing Hand Cream

While I am not a sanitary freak, I have, in recent years, been more aware of trying to keep my hands germ free, especially when the H1N1 virus was running rampant. Purell has been my product of choice. What I don't really care about it is the fact that there is a lot of alcohol in it. Alcohol is drying, which isn't great for your skin. There is a moisturizing formula of Purell but I still feel it is harsh.

On Saturday afternoon, Mai and I met up and went shopping at Ala Moana Shopping Center. We met in front of Sephora. I wanted to do some shopping in there to pick up a few items for our give away.

While I was standing in line waiting for my turn, I saw Clean Anti-Bacterial Moisturizing Hand Cream. It sounded very intriguing to me. According to the Sephora website, this is a hand hydrator featuring Safety Derm germ-fighting technology, for continuous 4 hour anti-bacterial protection. It cleans 99.9% of germs upon contact and keeps killing bacteria for up to 4 hours.

It is formulated with Benzethonium Chloride, Avocado Oi, Grapeseed Oil, and Jojoba Oil. What it is NOT formulated with is sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, triclosan, propylene glycol, mineral oil, animal ingredients, or alcohol. It is also not animal tested.

The suggested usage is to squeeze out approximately a dime-sized amount and massage into hands. Reapply every 4 hours for all-day protection.

I picked up the product, made my purchase and walked out. Mai and I tried it out right away. Upon the initial application, I was impressed. It was definitely nice and hydrating feeling. There is no scent at all. It really felt like I was just putting a hand cream on instead of something that is anti-bacterial. It is absorbed into the skin quite nicely and doesn't leave a greasy feel. I'm not sure if it really does protect you for 4 hours, especially if you wash your hands often. I do not apply it every 4 hours as recommended but I do apply it when I feel that I need to clean my hands. I am very happy with this product.

On a side note, I was really surprised at the checkout counter at Sephora. Sitting there by the register was a display of Fiberwig mascara! Yup, they are selling the mascara!

Hi Kat!
I noticed this was one of my prizes - OMG I am so so so happy! During the H1N1 phase I actually used so much hand santiser than the skin between my fingers started flaking and peeling!!! (embarrassed)

I also stock piled about 1 week's worth of food (as recommended by the WHO at the time) and noticed:

1. I must have been one of 20 people who actually stock piled food as recommended by the WHO.
2. It actually took me several months to finish all the canned soup!! LOLZ

I can't wait to use this - thank you so much!!! *BV dances*

Hi Kat,

An anti-bacterial hand cream? I'm astounded! I've never seen one before. Essentially it's a handcream with antiseptic in it (Benzethonium Chloride).

I actually like Carex moisturising hand gel. I don't know if you can get it over on your side of the pond though...It's a non-drying alcohol hand gel. Although the majority of the time I just use the alcohol hand foam that they have in all the hopsitals across the country - it's super drying. Hand hygiene is big when you work in hospitals! Unfortunately though most doctors don't seem to take it very seriously! It's pretty bad.

Fiberwig hasn't appeared in the UK yet. But then we don't have Sephora either D=

Im so lazy with hand stuff.. i should definitely take more care of them..

Its cool sephora stocks fiber wig but i think they aren't stocking the new brush types yet.. which doesn't matter since both brushes worked well, at least for me :)

Hello. Kathy☆
I'm a freak of hand cream products.
(Well I'm not a sanitary freak neither.)
I always use the antiseptic spray which is on the counter of my office entrance, but I do think that cream type of anti-bacterial thing has more moisture rich!

BTW, I cannot stop eating toffee nuts tonight too.

Yup BV, it's included in your prize. I liked it so much that I bought one for the grand prize.

As a side note, when I was starting to cook last night, I big chunk of food fell into the pan with hot oil and the oil flew up and I got splattered on my neck, chin, under my nose, side of my nose and in my eye--all on the right side of my face. The skin burned off on two small (really small, not to worry) areas on my chin and under my nose. I want to keep these areas clean so that infection won't develop and I patted on this cream. Since it has no alcohol in it, it didn't sting at all! It's so great!

That's too bad Lisa. I wonder what ingredient it is that causes the allergic reaction. Take care!

I've never heard of Carex before. It sounds quite interesting too.

Yes, as an individual who works in the hospital with all kinds of unseen germs, you definitely need to keep your hands clean.

Nic Nic, I'm really bad about my hands too. I have all kinds of lotions and creams that I say I will use but often forget. That's why my hands look older than my actual age. I've been pretty good about using the anti-bacterial stuff though, especially when I'm touching things in public.

As for the fiberwig mascara in Sephora, I'm not sure which brush it was but I was just very surprised to see it there. Honestly, I don't know how much they were selling it for but I would still prefer to purchase it and support the lovely online vendors that I deal with.

Hi Shihoco!

There's antiseptic spray at your office entrance? Wow, that's great! As I said in my post, I only started using things like this since the H1N1 virus became an epidemic. I am not usually so paranoid. I think that there can be too much of a good thing. I'm not sure it's true but I think that being exposed to things helps you to build up an immunity to it. I think that as more and more people protect themselves constantly with anti-bacterial cleansers, we will see more and more people becoming weaker as a result of not having built up immunities.

I'll continue using the cream and will let you know if it is really good.

The toffee peanuts are really yummy! Let me know if you want more.
